RECREATION AND SOCIAL GROUPS

HARVARD, MASSACHUSETTS

Welcome to Harvard, one of the most charming little towns in Massachusetts. Harvard really is one of the best-kept secrets in the area.  As a small town, often people haven’t heard of Harvard. Residents are accustomed folks giving them a puzzled look and saying “Wait, there’s a town named Harvard?”   But when you encounter someone who knows the town, it is clear right away.  “Oh it's so beautiful there!”  They exclaim.  “The schools are excellent there.”  Or better yet, they tell you who they know, who lives in town, and invariably, you know them, and the street they live on, because that’s what small town living is like.

While Harvard’s beauty is undeniable untarnished pastoral landscape, it often begs the question “What do people do here?”

And the answer is: lots.  You’d be surprised what an active and vibrant community Harvard really is!

RECREATION

Harvard is an active community; from young to old, people here are doers.   One of the most telling indicators of this is simple: they love to be outside.   In the spring they hit the streets. Rain or shine, folks will be out running, walking the dogs and the big favorite - road biking.

In the summertime everyone can be found at the pond.  Bare Hill Pond is one the treasures of living in Harvard and you will find people of all ages at the shore and on the water in the summer.

In the fall, the athletic fields are full of soccer players and the conservation trails are full of hikers and riders.  Those who enjoy hunting and fishing can hone their skills at the Harvard Sportman’s Club.

In the winter folks use the pond and the trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and on snow days there is always sledding on Gravity Hill. For those who enjoy mechanized winter activities there is a club for snowmobile enthusiasts.  Not far from Harvard, residents enjoy downhill skiing at Nashoba Valley in Westford or at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton, both of which offer great rates for families, beginners and retirees.

In addition to athletic pursuits, Harvard residents also get outside because of it is a vibrant agricultural community.  It is well established that Harvard has the best apples in the area.  In the fall it’s impossible not to stop at your local farm stand for pumpkins, cider and few pies.  Families come from all around to pick apples in our orchards.  In late summer into fall there is a Farmers Market held every Saturday at the Elementary School with lots of goodies from vendors in the area, and there's even live music!  For aspiring green thumbs, The Harvard Garden Club is a resource.  They welcome questions, offer encouragement, and help make the town beautiful in ways large and small.
